The girls were on "half term" aka February vacation last week, so we took the opportunity to get out of the city and visit the southern end of the Peak District National Park (about 2 1/2 hours north of London). We visited the Heights of Abraham which is a "hill" overlooking the Derwent Valley.
This trip was not for the faint of heart. We took a cable car to the "Hilltop Park" where we took a guided tour into the Great Masson Cavern. The girls went wild exploring inside the cave with their "torches" (flashlights). We were about 141 ft. down, and at times the opening was only about 5 ft. tall....so if you were afraid of heights and/or claustraphobic..this was not the day for you. The cable car stops half way up and I had to consciously not think about it!
The best part of all though was when we came out of the cave. We were overlooking the valley and on the most plush moss covered rolling hills. There was actually a spring to the ground. It was magnificent and so different then anything we have ever seen. Another first for us!
